If an intruder triggers a sensor, a signal is sent instantly to the ARC, where operators verify the threat and dispatch the police (needs URN) or notify your designated key holders.
To connect your home to an ARC, you must choose a communication method, typically categorised as Single Path or Dual Path monitoring.
1. Single Path Monitoring
Single path monitoring uses one-way to send signals to the ARC. It relies on a single connection type, such as your home broadband (IP) or a mobile network (GSM/4G).
How it works: When the alarm is triggered, it uses its one available route to call for help.
The Risk: If that single path is compromised—for example, if a burglar cuts your phone/internet line or if your local mobile mast goes down—the alarm has no way to alert the ARC.
Best for: Lower-risk properties where the budget is a primary concern, or as a basic upgrade from a non-monitored system.
2. Dual Path Monitoring
Dual path monitoring provides a fail-safe backup by using two independent communication routes (e.g., Broadband and 4G Mobile Data).
How it works: The system primarily uses one path (usually the faster IP connection) but constantly checks the second path (the mobile network). If the primary line is cut or fails, the system automatically and instantly switches to the second path to send the alarm signal.
Anti-Tamper Technology: The ARC "polls" (checks in with) the system at frequent intervals. If both paths are cut simultaneously, the ARC recognises the sudden loss of communication as a high-priority "Line Fault" or "Catastrophic Failure" and can treat it as an active intrusion.
Best for: Most modern homes, especially those with high-value assets or specific insurance requirements.
Why ARC Monitoring is Essential
Guaranteed Police Response
In many regions, the police will only attend an alarm if it is "confirmed" by a professional monitoring station. An ARC provides them with your Unique Reference Number (URN) for a priority police dispatch, ensuring you aren't at the bottom of the pile during an emergency.
Insurance Benefits
Many insurance providers offer lower premiums for homes with ARC monitoring. In fact, for high-value properties, dual path monitoring is often a mandatory condition of the policy.
Total Peace of Mind
Whether you are sleeping, at work, or halfway across the world, you know that a professional team is standing by to take action the second something goes wrong. You aren't relying on a "push notification" on your phone that you might miss if your battery dies or you're in a meeting.
